CLUB REMAINS UNBEATEN IN NOVEMBER
REEVE HAT-TRICK HERO
Paul Reeve kept up his 100% percent record and recorded a clean sweep with victories in the Team 1001, Singles and Pairs Competition, as the darts team drew 4-4 with local rivals Norton Oakes CC ‘B’.
In the team 1001 tournament, Paulo aka ‘the artist’ was cooking with Napalm, ably supported by team mates Better Red than Dead, the Magician’s assistant ‘Debbie McGee’, Bulldog and Woody. In a close game, Club deservedly came out on top.
The main competition proved to be a topsy-turvy affair which proved ultimately to be frustrating.
It started well, Paulo comfortably seeing of his opponent with over 200 to spare.
The pivotal match of the evening without doubt was the second game which Better Red than Dead did a ‘Devon loch’. It was a disaster on a similar scale of when Chukka once poured custard over his own head at Abbey Lane Primary School back in 1972. Opposition Captain Jake had packed up his darts and was on his way out of the door after BRTD had reached 50, over 300 ahead. It was a such a mere formality that 97 year-old Super Fan Doris, in her excitement had ordered a barley wine in celebration. What happened next was inexplicable, and half an hour later the tie was level. Doris had gone quiet, eyes rooted to the floor, to be fair there were fears she’d died but thankfully all was well.
The Club’s Poster Boy, Jailbird was Talking the Talk beforehand, sadly he wasn’t walking the walk as he suffered a mauling.
Team manager Chukka, playing through an injury after an altercation with a car battery restored parity with relative ease.
Debutant, Debbie McGee then put everyone through the mincer as he too almost let a 300 lead go, but he did finally come through.
Woody, was unlucky again, as he came unstuck against the opposition’s star player and we were all square going into the pairs.
Again, it was a case of what might have been when along with Debbie McGee, Chukka narrowly missed a 119 checkout and then fell foul of a wonderful checkout from the opposition. Jailbird and Paulo were effortless, well, Paulo was, but Jailbird provided the finishing touch to an accomplished performance.
Afterwards, team Manager Chukka paid homage to his team, ‘Everyone contributed, from the lads, to Doris and to the head of the feared Norton Ultra’s, Jim Harrison. ‘We Should have won, but we could have lost, and in the end we salvaged a point. Club remain 15th in the Premier League and are unbeaten in three. Next week, club are on their travels hoping to finally get a result on the road at ‘The Millhouses’, Good Arrows.
